Selfish means Live at the chapel

On June 11, 2026, a small band out of Fayetteville, North Carolina, hit the stage with a big sound. Selfish Means took the stage at Chapel of Bones in Raleigh supporting a stacked lineup featuring Chained, Claymore, Turn Cold, Leverage, and Swollen Teeth. It was a fucking banger of a show, and many of you already know how I feel about Chained.

Formed in 2025, Selfish Means quickly made their presence known with the release of their self-titled demo, Selfish Means. They followed that up with the single “My Home” in 2026. Their sound is blue-collar hardcore punk with street-level grit and zero excess. Fast riffs, blunt-force vocals, and songs built for packed floors and pile-ons.

Before the show, I was hanging around the floor checking out the merch and getting my camera ready. Out of nowhere, a guy walked up and asked, “What are you shooting with?” That kicked off a conversation about photography. During that conversation I found out he was in the Army and worked as a war photographer. At that point I was thinking, damn, this guy is fucking legit. I’m shooting hardcore shows and he’s shooting wars.

The conversation eventually shifted to hardcore. We talked about how powerful the scene can be, how it reaches people, helps them through difficult times, and creates a sense of community that is hard to find anywhere else. It didn’t take long to see this guy had a genuine passion for hardcore music and the people who make up the scene.

I call people like that builders. They build up the scene. They contribute. They make things better.

After talking for a while, I introduced myself. He smiled and said, “Cool, my name is Chase.”

Why tell that story in an article about a band?

Because Chase is the vocalist of Selfish Means.

We shot the shit for a while and not once did he come off with an ego or a “I’m the singer” attitude. That’s why I’m telling the story. Chase, along with Dallas on drums, Jensen on guitar, and Louie on bass, are about as down-to-earth as they come. They get it, and that comes through in their music.

While Selfish Means is firmly rooted in hardcore, there is an Oi! influence that is impossible to miss. You can hear elements of the street punk and Oi! traditions woven throughout their sound. That blend is part of what makes them stand out in the North Carolina hardcore scene. I love hardcore, but I’ll always appreciate an Oi! vibe, and Selfish Means delivers both.

This is one of the newer North Carolina bands worth keeping an eye on. They are authentic, genuine, and committed to the scene. If they keep doing what they’re doing, it won’t be long before they’re playing bigger stages and larger festivals.

Hardcore and Oi! to the core.

You’ve got to love the North Carolina scene.
